Abstrak

Given the widespread prevalence of malocclusion, improving standards of dental care for such patients is a pressing issue. Scientists focus on the problems of dental and jaw anomalies, their diagnosis [1, 2, 3] and treatment [4, 5], as well as the organization of dental care for their treatment [6, 7, 8]. At the same time, the importance of using a patient-centered approach in the provision of medical care is emphasized [9]. The decline in the availability of dental prosthetic care [10, 11, 12] indicates the need to improve standards for providing specialized care to the population and to adjust staffing levels, which will improve the quality of medical care [13]. Prolonged tooth loss leads to various functional and morphological disorders. The nature of the load on the periodontal tissues changes, the bioelectrical activity of the masticatory muscles decreases, and a new type of chewing appears. This leads to atrophic changes in the periodontal tissues and bone structures of the stomatognathic system. Atrophy of the vestibular surface predominates in the upper jaw, while pronounced atrophy of the lingual surface is observed in the lower jaw. As a result, the volume of the alveolar ridge decreases in the upper jaw and increases in the lower jaw. The result of these changes is referred to in the literature as “geriatric prognathism.” Less common atrophic processes in the oral cavity include torus and alveolar ridges in the upper jaw, as well as internal curvature in the lower jaw. The presence of pronounced torus or sharp internal curvature can significantly complicate the prosthetics process.
