Репродуктив ёшдаги РА билан оғриган аёлларда эстрадиол ва прогестерон даражасининг пасайиши яллиғланиш олди цитокинларининг гиперекспрессиясини кучайтирувчи омил ҳисобланади. Шу билан бирга, ҳайз циклининг иккинчи босқичида прогестероннинг физиологик ўсишининг йўқлиги уларнинг сезиларли даражада гиперекспрессиясига олиб келади. Ўз навбатида, бемор аёллар қон зардобида эстрадиол миқдорининг ўзгариши ИЛ-40 секрециясининг ортишига туртки беради.
